Yu Lei, a well-known expert in flue-gas based acid making, is currently the deputy chief engineer of NERIN, the professor-level senior engineer, the national registered chemical engineer, metallurgical engineer, and the consulting (investment) engineer.

She has engaged in engineering design and technical development of sulfuric acid and flue gas desulfurization for 32 years, presided over more than ten large-scale non-ferrous metallurgical projects and flue-gas based acid making projects, published more than ten papers.

She has won more than 10 Provincial and Ministerial Awards for Science and Technology and Excellent Engineering Design, and 1 Gold Prize of Provincial and Ministerial Patent. Among them, the invention of "SO2 non-equilibrium high-concentration double-conversion sulfuric acid making method", which won the Gold Prize of Provincial and Ministerial Patent Award, is the pioneer in the world, breaking the monopoly of foreign companies over the high SO2 conversion technology. This technology has been successfully applied in the project, making important contributions in improving the technical level of sulfuric acid industry in China, and in achieving cleaner production and good environmental protection. In 2008 Yu Lei was awarded the title of March 8 Red-Banner Pacesetters in Jiangxi Province.

Yu Lei is currently the fifth member of the sixth session of the China Petroleum and Chemical Engineering Survey and Design Association, and the member of the thirteenth editorial board of "Sulfuric Acid Industry" magazine.
